Her book ‘From the Ambassador’s Table’ was named the best cookbook in the world on entertaining at the World Cookbook Fair in Perigueux, France, and shortlisted as one of five best hard cover recipe books in the world at Jacobs Creek World Food Media Awards in Adelaide, Australia. Margaret has won several Awards for her excellent Recipes, including two Cordon d’ Or – Gold Ribbon Awards in 2005. She has a regular food and entertaining section in The Diplomat and International Canada magazine, and in November 2006, she and her husband Larry (a retired Canadian Ambassador) will be ‘Enrichment Lecturers’ on board the Silver Cloud luxury liner, sailing to various exotic locations between Dubai and Mumbai.
Margaret’s second book ‘Margaret’s Table – Easy Cooking & Inspiring Entertaining’ was launched very successfully recently. Larry has done all the photography in the book.
In the 2006 Culinary Arts Award Program, the entries sent in by Margaret and Larry were outstanding in quality, presentation and professionalism.
Lawrence ‘Larry’ Dickenson
Larry was in Canada’s Foreign Service for 28 years. A total of 20 years was spent living overseas with his wife Margaret; in Vienna, Belgrade, Moscow, Brussels, Cairo, Seoul, Kuwait and Jakarta. He was Canada’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Indonesia. On his return to Canada, he entered the Privy Council Office which provides support to the Prime Minister and the Canadian Cabinet.
Since retirement, after 35 years of public service, Larry turned his attention to his great love of excellent food and his major interest in photography. Now, he works closely with his wife, Margaret on her culinary projects. His photographic talents appear in Margaret’s new book. Margaret, like many a Foreign Service spouse, traveled the world with Larry, hosting thousands of guests in their homes in 8 different countries. Now Larry is returning the favor to help Margaret. He calls it “delayed reciprocity”
