Bio:

Chef Michael McGreal

Chef McGreal has worked in the Hospitality Industry for 25 years holding chef positions at some of the finest hotels and restaurants in Chicago.  He graduated with his chef training degree from Washburne Trade School and earned a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Saint Francis.  Chef McGreal is the Department chair for one of the top Culinary and Hospitality training programs in the nation, Joliet Junior College where he has also been an instructor since January 1996.  

Accomplishments

• Awarded the 2009 FENI Educator of the Year
• Author of new textbook titled Culinary Arts, Principles and Applications ©American Technical Publishers 2008
• Authoring a second book to be released summer 2009 Culinary Arts Math Principles and Applications ©American Technical Publishers 2008
• Awarded an ACF Presidential Medallion form ACF President Chef John Kinsella in 2008
• Awarded the Outstanding Professional Achievement Award from the University of St Francis 2007
• Awarded ProStart High School Mentor of the Year 2006
• Awarded the 2005 Chapter Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation
• Awarded the Everyday Hero Award by the Illinois Federation of Teachers in 2006
• Won the Illinois Pork Producers Taste of Elegance Competition in 2005
• Achieved the highest levels of industry certification including Certified Culinary Educator, Certified Executive Chef, Certified Hospitality Educator, Foodservice Management Professional, Master Certified Foodservice Executive and Certified Hotel Administrator.
• Is a guest chef once a year on Holland America Cruise Lines conducting cooking and wine tasting demonstrations for passengers
• Is a presenter for numerous national and local organizations each year including the National Tech Prep Network, The Community College Chairs Conference, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Illinois Agritoursim Conference, Career and Technical Education Conference and numerous oncology and cancer treatment centers around the nation.
