CULINARY LITERATURE AWARDS

 

There are two Awards for Culinary Literature chosen from the two sections seen here. Books must have major Culinary Literary content, and can include a few recipes, photographs, illustrations or line drawings.  Awards will be presented to the winning Authors.

ILLUSTRATED COOKBOOK

 

There are two Awards for Illustrated Cookbooks. Not all Cookbook Authors are professional chefs, so the two categories are seen below

CHEF/AUTHOR ILLUSTATED COOKBOOK

ILLUSTRATED COOKBOOK BY AN AUTHOR WHO IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL CHEF

 

The Illustrated Cookbook is always a Group Entry - Author and Photographer.  It can be a Triple or Quadruple Entry if there are two Authors, and a Food Stylist or Illustrator is included. All Entrants in the winning Illustrated Cookbook will receive an Award.

ILLUSTRATED COOKBOOKS MUST CONTAIN A WIDE SELECTION OF RECIPES, PHOTOGRAPHS AND/OR ILLUSTRATIONS LINE DRAWINGS. THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND/OR ILLUSTRATOR-ARTIST MUST BE INCLUDED INTO THE ILLUSTRATED ENTRY WITH THE AUTHOR/S. THIS ENTRY CAN BE A GROUP, TRIPLE OR QUADRUPLE ENTRY. A FOOD STYLIST CAN ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE ENTRY. 

 

 

SPECIALIZED COOKBOOKS

 

The Specialized Cookbook Awards were introduced into the Program in 2006, in celebration of the 21st Anniversary of Cordon d’ Or – Gold Ribbon (1985-2006). They remain in the Culinary Academy Awards Program by popular choice.

 

 

CULINARY OR COOKBOOK  ‘COVER & TITLE’

 

A BOOK ‘COVER & TITLE’ CAN SELL THE BOOK.  MAYBE! ENTER YOUR PUBLISHED CULINARY OR COOKBOOK.  THE JUDGES WILL PRESENT THE AWARD TO THE ENTRY, WHICH IN THEIR OPINION HAS THE BEST BOOK ‘COVER & TITLE’.

 

 

SELF PUBLISHED COOKBOOK

 

THE WAY TO GO IN TODAY’S WORLD! SELF PUBLISHING IS A GROWING TREND. NOW & THEN, A SUCCESSFUL SELF PUBLISHED BOOK GETS PICKED UP BY THE TRADITIONAL PUBLISHER, AND MOVES ON TO ACHIEVE GREATER SUCCESS. TAKE THE CHANCE, AND ENTER YOUR BOOK. YOU COULD WIN AN AWARD.

 

 

CULINARY TRAVEL COOKBOOK- NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL CUISINE

 

THE EMPHASIS IS ON ETHNIC FOODS AND RECIPES.  THE BOOK WILL TAKE THE READER ON A COLORFUL CULINARY TOUR TO FAR OFF PLACES OR CLOSER TO HOME, WHERE EXCELLENT FOOD IS SERVED. RESTAURANTS MAY BE FEATURED WITH THEIR POPULAR MENUS AND DISHES.

 

 

FOOD VERSE

 

ARE YOU THE OGDEN NASH OF THE CULINARY WORLD?  POETRY IN MUSIC IS WELL KNOWN.  POETRY IN THE CULINARY ARENA IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED.  IF YOU HAVE A BOOK OR WORK PUBLISHED ON FOOD VERSE, SEND IT IN, AND YOU MAY WIN AN AWARD.

 

 

FRIVOLITIES COOKBOOK

 

CANAPES… GARNISHES… PETITE FOURS… TAPAS… TIDBITS…  WHAT FUN! AN EXCITING, COLORFUL BOOK ENTERED HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A WINNER OF THIS AWARD.

 

The Book should feature a Selection of Food Presentations and Ideas, with tempting Morsels to eat. They can be Quick and Simple – Healthy – Luxurious – Extravagant - Hot ‘n’ Spicy – Trendy or Traditional.  They can be on Skewers or in WrappersCrisp & Crunchy, or made with Sugar & Spice. The book lends itself to a Group, Triple or Quadruple Entry if the Author/s wants to include the Photographer and/or Food Stylist. All Entrants in the winning book receive an Award.

 

 

CULINARY ENTERTAINMENT

 

PARTIES… DINNERS… LUNCHEONS… AFTERNOON TEAS… PICNICS… BBQ EVENTS…. YOU NAME IT!  THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT! 

 

The emphasis is on Recipes, and maybe Etiquette Tips, to help make your Event a very special occasion.

 

 

CULINARY HERBS & SPICES

 

IT ALWAYS MAKES INTERESTING READING TO DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF HERBS & SPICES….. THE HISTORY, LEGENDS AND FOLKLORE CAN BE FASCINATING…. AND THE BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES TOO.

 

The Book can have Literary content, and feature a selection of Recipes, but the Emphasis must be on the Herbs and Spices.

 

 

HEALTH – DIET & WEIGHT CONTROL

 

TODAY’S TREND IS TO STAY HEALTHY! BOOKS ON DIET, HEALTH, CALORIE CONTENT AND NUTRITION TOPICS, WITH RECIPES TO HELP ONE TO LOSE WEIGHT, ARE ALWAYS IN GREAT DEMAND. 

 

If your published book includes any of these topics, enter it into the Awards Program. You may win!

THE ‘POTLUCK’ BOOK

FICTION OR NON FICTION

 

Returned by popular request. This is a Non Culinary style of book – Fiction or Non Fiction….with some aspects of the culinary world entering into the story or subject matter. Examples: The setting for a non fiction book could be travel, and indicate a national cuisine with  ‘show and tell’ features. Or, the fiction book could connect in some way with a culinary setting or have a principle culinary character in the story.
