Greetings!
Instead of sending the December Winter Edition of the Culinary Voices of America, I am forwarding a flyer that went out last week from the Abilities Foundation in the Bay area. Cordon d' Or - Gold Ribbon Culinary Academy Awards invited Abilities to partner with us in the upcoming Annual International Cordon d' Or - Gold Ribbon Culinary Academy Awards Gala Evening and Awards Presentation. Abilities find jobs and affordable housing for disabled people, and help with medical expenses. The Evening is being held for a good cause, and Cordon d' Or has declined to accept any monetary returns for the event. Tickets are at a premium for this spectacular evening, with local restaurants participating in the reception hour, preparing appetizers, to be followed by a Five Course sit down Dinner, presented by Executive Chef Mark Heimann in the Grand Ballroom at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort. Several sponsorships have been received for the evening, and as I write this, we have been approached by others who want to get involved with sponsorships too. Abilities will send out another updated flyer by the New Year, and I will be happy to pass it along to you. You can make reservations through Abilities to join us for a wonderful evening. Several Winners plan to attend the evening, and several former Winners plan to attend too. NBC, CBS, ABC and other TV networks have informed us that they intend to cover the evening, and interview Winners. Their programs are syndicated nationwide, so if you are not there, you may see it sometime on TV.
During the Gala evening, an announcement will be made about the 'Florida - America's Culinary Paradise' Program, which is underway. Included in activities planned for 2008 is the introduction of a new Culinary Academy Award for the Best Restaurant in the State of Florida; the commencement of the 'Culinary Walk of Fame' to be established here in Florida, and the first 'Agritourism' Conference to be held in central Florida in the Spring 2008. Watch our web site for on-going information, or additional details will be available in 2008 Culinary Voices of America editions.
Also, on the web site click on the link 'The Emerald Isle - The Jewel in the Culinary Crown'. You will see announcement on the next Culinary Tour of Ireland 'Taste Ireland -2009'. You have options to click on a Culinary Odyssey which tells the story (in four parts) on how the New Irish Cuisine evolved, whereby Ireland today is a Gourmet's Paradise, and a major food player on the world stage. Alternately, you can click on the Irish Culinary Tour 2006, which several participants called "a resounding success". There, you can read their testimonials; see the superb selection of photos which they sent into the web site; read the review of the Tour; or read the copy of the article published by Carla Blake in the Irish Examiner - Ireland's No 1 daily paper. In the late 1970s, I was commissioned by the Examiner to fill a double page weekly with articles, and given carte blanche on the choice of topics. However, the majority of the articles were directed at promoting ideas for the new Irish cuisine. It was called 'Out & About with Noreen' and ran for six years. The paper had a readership in seventeen countries at the time. If you are ever in Florida and get in touch, I have copies of all editions in my culinary library and will be happy to show them to you.
