ACADEMY OF THE CULINARY ARTS CULINARY ACADEMY AWARDS
CULINARY VOICES OF AMERICA Fall Edition 2008 Greetings! Well, the Fall is with us again, and the Summer went by all too quickly. Just shows how much we were all enjoying ourselves as time seemed to fly past. Hope you had a good Summer too. One unfortunate recent setback. Someone got into the Web Hosting Company, (a well known company hosting many sites) and took direct aim to destroy our new web site and files. Sounds like a deliberate vindictive act of sabotage. No one knows why this has happened. However, some time ago, we received a threat from someone who claimed they would destroy it. All avenues will be pursued by those who know how to track down such incidents. It looks like it may become a criminal investigation. I will leave it in the hands of the Experts to deal with it. While it was a major inconvenience to the Cordon d' Or - Gold Ribbon Culinary Academy Awards Program, fortunately Dave, our Web Master had all back up files at hand, including all photography, artwork and TV video materials. He has put everything back together again, and we have relocated to another hosting company. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to many people who have been in touch to tell me that they plan to send in entries into the Awards contest, and were confused when they could not find the Web site. Entries are still coming in daily, despite the unfortunate hiccup. It has not been a major set back due to the change in the time frames for the 2008 Awards Contest, explained in the Summer Edition of the Newsletter. However, a decision was made to accept Entries up to November 30, 2008. Winners will be notified by February 1, 2009. The Awards Presentations are still on track for May 2009 at the elegant Don CeSar Resort on St. Pete Beach. If anyone wants to contact Cordon d' Or - Gold Ribbon via e mail, at Cordondor@aol.com please do so. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience and confusion this may have caused. Florida - America's Culinary Paradise Let me tell you what is going on with Florida - America's Culinary Paradise Program. The Florida Program has created considerable interest. These days, I am rushing off in all directions across the State to meet with so many interesting people involved in the Culinary World. Dave is currently putting together the new Web site for Florida - America's Culinary Paradise Program. Many people throughout Florida want to bring their culinary work and activities to the fore, and become a prominent player on the Florida scene. I have always maintained that the State has so many culinary activities going on, but these are all very fragmented. The Program plans to bring them all together under the umbrella of Florida - America's Culinary Paradise, and through the Program promote them in their own areas, and across the State and the Nation. The ball starts rolling in October, with an event planned by three groups in the Sarasota area. It will take place at the Pavilion in the center of the Fiorelli Winery. There will be Wine tasting and a Tour of the Winery; Presentations by the Suncoast Alliance Group who run the Program 'Your Farm to Fork Resources'. They bring the food producers and farmers together with the restaurants, and have arranged 'Food Tasting ' involving local Restaurants. The third group is the Sarasota Slow Food Convivia. During the event, I will hold a Demonar. The afternoon's event is open to the general public. Should be a lot of fun. Below is copy of the leaflet and poster artwork done by Andrea Daniels, who is an excellent web designer. Anyone who will be in the Sarasota area is most welcome to attend. There is an Entry Fee, and details to buy tickets can be seen on the poster. You may need to enlarge your screen to see it. All proceeds go to Slow Food Sarasota, and Suncoast Food Alliance. We will let you know when the new web site is 'live' and you can see the exciting plans moving forward with the Program throughout Florida.
